Why wear a dog coat?
A range of factors will dictate whether your dog could benefit from an extra layer of protection against the elements. Important things to consider include their age, type of fur, breed, activity levels, and where you live. Dogs with thin, fine coats are of course much more likely to feel the cold than larger, furrier dogs. Dogs with thin coats might also benefit from wearing a coat immediately after intense exercise to help prevent them from becoming chilled as they quickly lose excess heat. Dogs with shorter legs will benefit from wearing a dog coat as their leg and tummy fur will be constantly wet and cold.
Many dog breeds kept as pets here now in the UK are not actually native breeds and therefore may not have the natural coats to cope with our colder climate. Older dogs, like humans, feel the cold more, they are also more susceptible to diabetes, heart disease, cancer and kidney disease and therefore would benefit from extra protection from the cold by wearing a dog coat.
Some dogs really don't like wearing a coat, if they are not happy wearing a coat, don't force it. Perhaps try wearing it for short periods of time in the house and gradually build up the time.
Finally, don't put your dog's coat on until you are ready to go out, and take it off and dry it as soon as you get home.
Do you need to keep your dog warm, dry or both?
Many of our coats are waterproof, some come with a fleece lining and some suits have trouser legs.
Our waterproof trouser suits are an excellent choice for dogs who seem to be constantly attracted to the wet and mud, the suits protect your entire dog and offer wind and rain protection. These suits come in full leg or half leg sizes to suit all breeds.
We have a wide range of fleece and furlined dog coats, please do look through our range to find the perfect coat for your dog.

How to measure your dog to find the right size of dog coat?
Coat size is determined by measuring nape of the neck to base of tail.
Be sure your dog is standing squarely, with head up, while measuring. With your dog looking straight ahead, measure from the point where the neck joins the body to the point where the tail joins the body. This measurement will determine what size coat you should buy.
